(ANSA) – OLBIA, APRIL 07 – Dozens of wild boars have been wandering around some neighborhoods of Olbia for months now. As evening falls, when car traffic also begins to decrease, several herds of these wild animals roam undisturbed in search of food in the areas of Poltu Cuadu, Olbia Mare and near the Costa Smeralda airport. The last sighting, immortalized by the cell phones of some residents, was last March 27th around 6.30 pm: a family of wild boars, with many puppies in tow, regardless of the people present, crossed the streets of Poltu Cuadu, passing in front of the headquarters of the local police, to various homes and a bar, and then disappears into the vegetation that is located a stone’s throw from the Olbia coast. The video went viral on social media. The amazement of those present, however, also left room for concern: on many occasions, perhaps because they were frightened by the presence of men, these animals attempted to attack them and some of the dogs of the residents of the area were also bitten several times. For this reason, over six hundred people have already signed a petition prepared by the lawyer Christian Cicoria, to ask for a solution to this problem. “We are not asking for them to be suppressed – explains the lawyer Cicoria who is also a resident of the Poltu Cuadu neighborhood – but we want to avoid episodes like the one involving a woman, attacked a few weeks ago by a wild boar. For her we have we have already forwarded the request for compensation for damages to the Sardinia Region. It is a potentially dangerous situation for the inhabitants of these areas and for those who pass through them. The petition we have made can be signed by everyone, even animal rights activists, and some have already done so, precisely because we don’t want them to be killed, but we also want to protect our domestic dogs.” Many people are in fact frightened by the presence of these wild boars and are avoiding evening walks with their dogs, or even simply cycling in the tourist port area. “We remind you that in these neighborhoods there are three schools, the artistic high school, the primary school and a nursery school”, added Cicoria.
