Wil West Reconsidered as Potential Location for Underground Cargo Handling Hub

Wil West is not yet buried as a location for underground cargo handling

Two years ago, the Wil city council rejected a “Cargo Sous Terrain” hub in Wil West. Now the heads of the megaproject are wondering again – and are putting pressure on it.

A hub in Wil is planned for the underground route network of “Cargo Sous Terrain” between Winterthur and St.Gallen.

At first glance, Andreas Binkert’s appearance was irritating. As a representative of the St.Gallen area developer Mettler2Invest, he gave a short speech last week at the groundbreaking ceremony for Hanspeter von Rotz’s new Wil hotel complex “West One”. The Autowelt patron had previously touted “West One” as the starting signal for the suspended large-area development Wil West. But Binkert went even further and promoted Wil West as a possible location for a hub for “Cargo Sous Terrain” (CST), the generational project of a Switzerland-wide tunnel system for self-driving freight wagons. You have to know that Mettler2Invest is a shareholder and partner of the CST support association.
