Stefan Åsberg played as a youth in S/G Hockey in Gävle.
The career ended when the SVT profile was fired by Niklas Wikegård.
– He sent his old father Arne to tell me that I was gone, he says in the podcast Slanted inwards backwards.
As a youngster, Stefan Åsberg was rated as both a soccer and ice hockey player.
He says this himself has contributed to him becoming a competitive person.
The ice hockey career ended already at the age of 15 at home in Gävle.
– My knees hurt. Then I never really got started, says Stefan Åsberg.
“Foot that he kicked”
In connection with that, he got a new coach in the club S/G Hockey.
It was the former Brynäs back Niklas Wikegård who in turn had to quit early due to a knee injury.
– I was part of the junior season when we got this new coach Niklas Wikegård. We were his first team in the b-juniors. I became the first player he kicked. It was not wrong that he took me away, but he sent his old father Arne to tell me that I was gone, says Stefan Åsberg.

54-year-old Stefan Åsberg is known as a foreign correspondent for SVT in the USA and the Middle East.
S/G Hockey or S/G 83 was a merger of Strömsbro and Gävle GIK and finished fourth and third in the allsvenskan in 1985 and 1986 respectively.
The club then became Team Gävle, which finished ninth in the Allsvenskan in 1993.
