Jakarta

Paris Saint Germain will not bring a number of names to undergo a pre-season tour to Japan. One of the big names that were crossed out was Georginio Wijnaldum.

PSG’s tour to Japan will take place on July 16-25, 2022. There, Christophe Galtier’s squad will hold three test matches. Those who are dropped are likely no longer needed by the club.

L’Equipe reports that nine players will be left in France, namely Wijnaldum, Mauro Icardi, Layvin Kurzawa, Julian Draxler, Ander Herrera, Eric Junior, Rafinha, Sergio Rico and Idrissa Gueye.

Not only that, there is still Abdou Diallo who is also not included. He is known to be being targeted by AC Milan, and is currently still in the negotiation stage.

Meanwhile, the daily Le Parisien also added Thilo Kehrer, Leandro Paredes and Danilo Pereira to the list of players that PSG would like to expel. Under the new regime, the reigning Ligue 1 champions want to clean up the squad.

Luis Campos as PSG’s football advisor will select players who still fit the club’s needs. The rest will be removed as part of the clean-up.

It’s just that, it’s not easy for PSG to kick the top dozen players, given the high salaries they provide. This is also what makes PSG players lack of interest, for fear of not being able to meet the payments of these players.

For example, Wijnaldum, who earns £8.6 million net per season until 2024. He was rumored to be returning to Liverpool, but manager Juergen Klopp seems to have moved on from the Dutch midfielder, and is not looking for a midfielder.

Last season, Wijnaldum made 31 appearances for PSG in the French League, but only started 18 times. Whereas in his last season with Liverpool, he was never absent in 38 Premier League matches, even starting 34 times.
