SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins received his COVID-19 vaccine and was cleared to play.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr made the announcement to reporters after Sunday’s practice and before traveling to Portland for his first preseason game.
Wiggins faced the possibility of not being able to play Golden State’s home games, at the Chase Center, beginning Oct. 13 after the San Francisco Department of Public Health initiated a vaccination requirement for mass events indoors.
On Monday, during media day, Wiggins indicated that he would remain firm in his beliefs regarding the vaccine, but acknowledged that “his back was definitely against the wall, but I will continue to fight for what I believe.”
The NBA indicated that it “reviewed and denied” Wiggins ‘request for a religious exception and that he would not be able to play the Warriors’ home games until he completed the vaccination mandate.
All those 12 years of age or older need to prove their vaccination to attend any event at the Chase Center and that message can be found on the Warriors website.
