(ANSA) – BUENOS AIRES, APRIL 26 – The Wiesenthal Center for Latin America has warned of the danger of the affirmation of policies in Venezuela that could favor the persecution of the Jewish community in the country. This is what we read in a press release, which focuses in particular on a bill presented by the government and called ‘Law against fascism, neo-fascism and similar ideologies’. The note highlights that political exponents close to the government have suggested including Zionism among these ideologies, openly legitimizing anti-Semitic attacks. According to the director of the Center, Ariel Gelblung, “with this dangerous law the government wants to equip itself with the elements to ban any community demonstration linked to the Jewish State (…) further proof that anti-Zionism has become the disguise of anti-Semitism “. Gelblung also underlined that the Jewish community in Venezuela has shrunk by 30% compared to pre-Chavez levels due to the growing hostilities suffered and that under the government of Nicolas Maduro the alliance with Iran has been strengthened.
