The Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation’s South Westphalia Conference addresses the shortage of skilled workers
Besides the structural change, the shortage of skilled labor is the biggest challenge for the local economy and for South Westphalia as a whole. How can local businesses hire skilled workers and keep them long-term? What role do the economy and domestic politics play in this?
These and other questions will be discussed on Saturday 21 January at 9:00 am in the Dorint Hotel Arnsberg as part of the South Westphalian Conference of the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation.
prof. dr. After a brief welcome by FES speaker Sohel Ahmed, Carsten Knaut of TH Köln will give an introductory speech and provide incentives for subsequent panel discussions. In these four different panels, the participants can address different sectors. These include the areas of health and care, industry and crafts, tourism and hospitality, as well as the area of public administration. The panels are accompanied by representatives of trade unions, chambers, businesses and local politics.
In a final forum, the results of the panels will be collated under the moderation of the deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group, Dirk Wiese, and further steps will be discussed.
“In the past, the South Westphalia Conference has proven to be a good format when it comes to developing solution strategies for challenges in South Westphalia. With the shortage of skilled workers, we are dealing with an ongoing topic on 21 January and want to make a further step towards a long-term solution with the results gathered,” says Dirk Wiese, spokesman for the South-Western SPD.
“Concerned citizens are expressly called to participate in the resolution process. The only requirement for this is to register for the event via the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation website,” adds Wiese.
