In a summery week, exquisite wines and handmade delicacies were served to the stylish sounds of numerous musicians over the past ten days.

From Friday, August 9th, through Sunday, August 18th, numerous guests flocked to the 47th Rheingau Wine Week around the Market Church, the Castle Square and the Dern’sche grounds and enjoyed not only the fine wines but also the culinary and musical offerings.

The Rheingau Wine Week is one of the most beautiful events in Wiesbaden.

Wine festival a crowd puller

“We are delighted that we were once again able to give the many guests – including those from outside – a chance to experience the joie de vivre, lightness and hospitality that this festival exudes. The Rheingau Wine Week is and remains a crowd puller and is important for the revitalization of our city center. And the retail, catering and hotel industries also benefit from the increased number of visitors, especially on the two weekends,” said Mayor Christiane Hinninger (Greens/Alliance 90) on Sunday.

Great demand for bus ticket with wine voucher

“This year, ESWE Verkehr’s event ticket for the wine week was even better received than last year, with around 9,500 vouchers being issued – this shows that we are on the right track with our climate-friendly travel offer,” said the mayor.

The wine festival ticket could be exchanged at the mobility center’s stand for a voucher for wine tasting at selected wineries. “And the bike lockers were always full,” says Hinninger happily.

Increasing visitor numbers

“The number of visitors was very positive. As in previous years, we recorded a very high number of visitors every day. The weekends were of course more busy, but the winemakers also filled a lot of glasses during the week and made good sales,” summarizes Simon Rottloff, authorized officer at Wiesbaden Congress & Marketing GmbH (WICM) and responsible for the outdoor events.

Highlight of the festival season

The 96 wineries that were represented at their stands on site were also satisfied with this year’s Rheingau Wine Week. However, the recovery period for the wineries after the wine week is short, and there is still a lot of work to be done in the vineyards before the harvest begins in mid-September.

But the wine week in Wiesbaden is an important date in the calendar for the Rheingau winegrowers every year: “The Rheingau wine week in Wiesbaden is the highlight of the festival season for many Rheingau winegrowers. This is also reflected in the fact that many have been there from the very beginning and that they start planning for the next year as soon as the wine week ends. As the Rheingau winegrowers’ association, we are delighted that our destination partner, the WICM and the city of Wiesbaden, organize this great festival together with the Rheingau winegrowers every year and make it possible for them. Here, contacts are maintained, new ones are made and our region is promoted together,” explains Dominik Russler, Managing Director of the Rheingau Winegrowers’ Association e. V. and Rheingauer Weinwerbung GmbH.

Pure summer feeling at the wine festival

“This year, the Rheingau Wine Week was really extraordinarily sunny. Despite the many very warm and hot days, we were again able to welcome several hundred thousand visitors to the wine week. We were very well prepared at all times – the water level of the ESWE supply provided the visitors with good Wiesbaden drinking water, the medical station between the market church and the daycare center helped immediately with circulatory problems and there were many shady places at the wine stands,” explains Rottloff.

Many hard-working helpers working for a great festival

The rescue services’ conclusion is also positive: there were more calls at weekends and on warmer days, mainly due to circulatory problems and insect bites, especially from wasps. Otherwise, visitors were generally calm and relaxed. There were no major incidents.

WICM GmbH is also satisfied with the capacity utilization of the event area – apart from two stands that were canceled at short notice, all spaces were occupied. The cooperation with the winemakers, restaurateurs and other service providers also ran smoothly. Special thanks go to the waste disposal companies of the state capital Wiesbaden (ELW), who ensured that the event area was always clean.
