Wiesbaden. Employees of the Wiesbaden State Theater stated in a public statement that Collaboration with Managing Director Holger von Berg is no longer possible. In our opinion, Berg has “sustainably damaged the foundations of theater operations through his actions over the last two years.” The authors cite “arbitrarily changing financial forecasts”, failures to fill positions and the withholding of contracts. “We experience and suffer every day how the work of the entire company is torpedoed in this way,” it says. The letter was signed by acting director Wolfgang Behrens and dramaturge Anika Bárdos. They declared themselves representative of many employees of the State Theater who “do not sign here by name out of fear or concern of personal or work-related reprisals.”
Only recently did the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art and the city of Wiesbaden as sponsors announce that they wanted to send a management consultancy to the theater in order to hand over a “healthy” house to the future director. It was said that the management of the house was carried out jointly by the director and the managing director. The relationship between has been true for some time Director Uwe Eric Laufenberg, whose last season has begun, and Holger von Berg, who only came to the house in 2021, as broken. Coaching and a report arranged by the sponsors are said to have not resulted in any improvements; in a statement from the theater it was recently said that these surveys had not been evaluated. Behrens and Bárdos now consider their open letter to be unavoidable, since “even after numerous desperate calls for help from within the ministry, the responsible ministry appears to be covering Holger von Berg’s course and trying to cover it up with concealing measures.” The theater is heading for a financial and organizational catastrophe. On September 15th, a “political” entitled “The Ministry” will premiere at the Wiesbaden State Theater.
