Wiener Städtische celebrates 50 years of company kindergarten

Vienna (OTS) –

Wiener Städtische is known as a family-friendly company. The main premise is that no one should have to choose between family and career. For decades, numerous measures have been used to support employees in combining the two. The company’s own kindergarten is an essential part of this. The company kindergarten was opened on September 2, 1974 as the first of its kind in Austria at Hahngasse 24 in Vienna’s ninth district. To this day, it is run by the Wiener Kinderfreunde and is now located at Salzgries 3. Since 2021, there has been a second location at Schottenring 35 due to increasing demand. “It was a pioneering achievement to set up the first company kindergarten in Austria 50 years ago – we are very proud of that. Even though the world of work has changed fundamentally in the past half century, one thing has remained constant: we promote the compatibility of work and family,” says Ralph Müller, General Director of Wiener Städtische Versicherung.

The company kindergarten provides parents with the best possible support: Both locations are within walking distance of the company headquarters and the Vienna regional office. The opening hours Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. offer parents and children the greatest possible flexibility. On more than 1,400 square meters at both locations, 100 kindergarten children and 40 after-school children are currently cared for in the toddler group (0 to 3 years), the family groups (2 to 6 and 3 to 10 years), the kindergarten group (3 to 6 years) and the after-school groups (6 to 10 years).

Family friendliness is a top priority

When it comes to family friendliness, the company kindergarten is just one of many measures: flexitime regulations, flexible working time models, home office and much more support the compatibility of work and family. In addition to the daddy month, parental leave and part-time work, fathers are also given the opportunity to have a daddy week immediately after the birth. The figures confirm that these measures are well received. Over 90 percent of employees return to work after parental leave. “All these measures contribute to the fact that our staff turnover is very low. Some colleagues who work for us today attended our kindergarten in the 1970s,” shows itself Müller pleased.
