On Saturday night, a 56-year-old Austrian is said to have suffocated his three children in Zagreb and then tried to kill himself.
According to the police, the officers were alerted at 2 a.m. after the suicide note on Facebook and Instagram. In the flat in the Mlinovi district they found the unconscious man who tried to kill himself with poison or pills, next to him were three lifeless children. The man is currently in stable condition in the hospital.
The children are twins aged seven and a four-year-old daughter. Her mother was out of town at the time of the crime.
According to the daily newspaper Morning paper The suspect is 56-year-old Harald K. from Vienna, who lives in Croatia. The children’s parents are allegedly divorced and the father has worked for several “well-known Austrian companies”. He is also said to have his own consulting firm in Vienna.
In the Facebook post he is said to have said goodbye to friends and relatives and thanked them for their help. He is also said to have pointed to a relationship drama and a divorce, as well as money problems. The suspect is also said to have named people who did not help him. Now he is finished.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet been able to confirm the act to the APA. The Austrian embassy had contacted the Croatian authorities, it said.
