Widow’s pension from January, but money later. There is a statement from the ministry

The Act includes the possibility of combining a survivor’s pension with another pension benefit, e.g. pension or disability pension paid between July 1, 2025 and December 31, 2026 in the amount of 15%, and from January 1, 2027 in the amount of 25%. This benefit could increase in subsequent years.

– When people live together all their lives and one person dies, it is a great personal tragedy. We don’t want it to be a financial tragedy either. The cost of living is decreasing only slightly, and so far the household budget has decreased by more than half – explains Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy.

The ministry explains that until now, when the husband of a retired couple died, the wife had to choose between keeping her pension or the survivor’s pension. The imported equipment is more beneficial. A widow or widower will be able to keep their pension and receive part of their spouse’s survivor’s pension, or choose a survivor’s pension and add part of their own pension to the amount of this benefit.

Until it is completed three times higher than the minimum pension, the payment of a widow’s pension will not reduce the amount of the benefits. It does not matter whether the pension came from KRUS, ZUS or another system. People who lost their spouse many years ago are also eligible for extra money.

According to estimates, About 2 million men and women from Poland will benefit from the act.

The Act is the implementation of a civil project, supported by the Left and OPZZ, with the support of more than 200,000 citizens.
