Widow Detained, 5 Children Taken in by South Nias Police for Care and Treatment

The widow of 5 children named Erlina Zebua was detained by the District Attorney (Kejari) South Nias (Nisel) because of the case persecution. Now, Erlina’s 5 children are being cared for and cared for by the police.

“Three children were cared for by Ina Leo (resident), then two children were cared for by me brought to the hospital by the Police,” said Nisel Police Chief AKBP Reinhard Nainggolan when contacted, Monday (22/5/2023).

After treatment, the South Nias Police will prepare a house for all of Erlina’s children so they can live together under the care of the South Nias Police.

Ina Leo himself is a friend of Erlina. Ina Leo used to be a BPBD employee.

It is known that Erlina’s husband drowned 5 years ago. BPBD is also handling this case. It was there that Ina Leo and Erlina met. Feeling sorry, Ina Leo is willing to take care of her first daughter Erlina.

The Beginning of the Case

In August 2022, Erlina reported to the police regarding a case of land grabbing by her neighbors. As time went by, there was an act of stabbing.

Erlina stabbed the child of her neighbor who was suspected of grabbing the land. Not accepting it, her neighbors then reported Erlina to the police in September 2022.

The police have tried to mediate 4 times. 2 mediations were held at the South Nias Police, 2 mediations were held in the village. However, from a series of mediation, no agreement was found.

“Because the persecution is easier to prove (than cases of land grabbing), so the case files are finalized after completion, we have to send them to the Prosecutor’s Office,” explained Reinhard.

Out of humanity, Reinhard ensured that the Police investigators did not arrest Erlina. However, as soon as the files were sent to the Public Prosecutor, the South Nias Prosecutor’s Office instead detained Erlina.

“Until there (the South Nias Prosecutor’s Office) the Prosecutor was detained, it’s not our authority anymore,” he added.

After that, a viral video showing Erlina’s five children crying hysterically. Reinhard denied the narrative circulating that the police detained Erlina and that there was fabrication of the case.

Reinhard ensured that the police did not arrest Erlina, but the South Nias Prosecutor’s Office held Erlina in custody. The police also confirmed that there was no fabrication of the case.

Reinhard said that his party had submitted a request for a suspension of detention to the South Nias Prosecutor’s Office today. If finally accepted, then Reinhardt plans to take care of Erlina’s five children.

“Later, for example, if the suspension is approved, I will propose five of them. Ina Leo and I have coordinated that we have a house prepared for the five of them,” said Reinhard.

The condition of the children being treated

Please note, Erlina has 5 children. The first 3 children are girls, while the other 2 are boys.

The first 3 children are now being cared for by Ina Leo, while 2 boys are now being cared for at the Bhabinkamtibmas house on behalf of Bripka Ichsan Budiman.

“(The 4th and 5th children) The boys happen to have mange and fever, the boys,” said Reinhard.

Later the 4th and 5th children will live with Bripka Ichsan and a member of the South Nias Police named Limbong. For maintenance and care costs will be borne by Reinhard.

“Starting tonight (Erlina’s child is being cared for by the police). Tonight we started eating at Pak Limbong’s shop. Near the Police, they will be taken to Babhin’s house,” explained Reinhard.
