In the Hokuriku region, it rained over a wide area on the night of the 22nd (Monday). Be careful of landslides even if it rains a little. Starting tomorrow, the 23rd (Tuesday), the strongest cold air of the season will arrive. There are places where there will be heavy snow even in flat areas, and there is a risk of heavy snowfall on the 24th (Wednesday).

Rain mainly in the morning and evening

Today, the 22nd (Monday), the Hokuriku region is likely to experience rain in the morning, mainly in Niigata Prefecture, due to the influence of a trough in atmospheric pressure. The rain will temporarily subside during the day, but it will continue to rain over a wide area at night. It looks like it will snow along the mountains. In areas where the earthquake shook strongly, be careful and be on guard against landslides even if it rains a little.

The maximum temperature is expected to be around 10℃ in many places, with 10℃ expected in Suzu City and Noto Town, and 11℃ in Wajima City. Daytime temperatures will not rise much, but will be higher than normal. However, on nights when it starts to rain, it can get really cold.

23rd to 25th: Heavy snow in flat areas

Tomorrow, the 23rd (Tuesday), the atmospheric pressure will gradually change to a winter-like atmosphere. By the 25th (Thursday), the strongest cold air of the season is expected to flow in at approximately 5,500 meters above the Hokuriku region, with temperatures below -36 degrees Celsius (the standard for heavy snow in flat areas).

JPCZ* will become evident in the Sea of Japan, and developed snow clouds will continue to flow into the Hokuriku region. The amount of snowfall will increase not only along the mountains but also on the flatlands, and there are likely to be warning-level heavy snowfalls in some places on the 24th (Wednesday). Accumulating snow makes it difficult to check road conditions. Also, since the snow will be wet, be careful of earthquake-damaged houses collapsing due to the weight of the snow.

*The Japan Sea Polar Air Mass Convergence Zone (JPCZ) is a region where the cold winds flowing from the Siberian continent are once bisected by the Changbai Mountains (highest peak: Mt. Paekdu, 2,744 meters) located in the northern part of the Korean Peninsula, and the leeward area of Japan is the JPCZ. This is a convergence zone (line where snow clouds are likely to develop) that is formed when they meet again at the sea. JPCZ makes it easier for snow clouds to develop, and when these snow clouds flow in one after another, they often turn into heavy snow.
