Widespread in India, Cases of Black Fungus Now Detected in Egypt

KAIRO, KOMPAS.TV – The case of the Black Mushroom that hit India, has now reached Egypt. The north African country has reported cases of Black Fungus, although the number is still very small and is being treated.

Launch Associated PressHowever, a black fungus infection called mucormycosis is relatively rare. However, doctors suspect that India’s sudden rise in infections could further complicate efforts to combat the pandemic.

“A number of (Black Fungus) cases have emerged, but in very small numbers, and are being diagnosed and treated,” said Dr Ehab Kamal, assistant medical education for Egypt’s Ministry of Health at a press conference in Cairo, Monday (31/5/2021).

Handling of patients with cases of black fungus infection in Egypt, said doctor Kamal, “started after consulting an ENT doctor, a neurologist, and an ophthalmologist.”

“Medicines are available and patients in some cases have recovered from the disease because early diagnosis gives us the opportunity to control the disease,” he added.
