The quality of food in the Czech Republic is demonstrably poor. It’s rare that chain stores carry anything really good here. Then, when you go to neighboring Germany, it’s not enough to be amazed at how great food you can buy there. In our region, it is more about ensuring that the products are safe at all. Even that has not been very successful lately.

Even large retail chains have a number of faults in this regard, even those that are among the higher quality and more expensive ones, such as Billa. It was there that the State Agricultural and Food Inspection found a popular spread that contained something that did not belong in it at all.
It was a Paris salad spread, which was sold under the private label Billa, which is very popular, because it usually offers the best price in the given category. After all, people like this brand because they associate Billu with quality.
“The product contained a preservative – benzoic acid, which was not listed on the packaging,” stated the State Agricultural and Food Inspection in its notification to the product, which it classified in the category of low-quality food.

It can be a lick
It was a batch with a minimum shelf life of November 16, 2023, while the package contained 135 grams and the inspected product came from the Billy store in Říčany. However, it can be expected that this applies to at least the whole lot, if not the product as such.

Although this substance can be added to food, it is not a good thing, and it must always be listed on the packaging. Some people react extremely sensitively to her presence and have major problems as a result.
