Wi-Fi Alliance Introduces Wifi Certified 7 with Four Times Higher Speed and 99% Shorter Response Times

Three years after the launch of Wifi 6E, which added support for the 6 GHz band to the Wifi 6 standard (802.11ax), it is now time for the next generation of wireless networks. The organization behind the standard, the Wi-Fi Alliance, released on Monday evening the final, certified version of Wifi 7.

Wifi Certified 7, as the official name reads, comes with a long list of improvements that together give the technology up to four times higher transmission speed and 99 percent shorter response times compared to Wifi 6E.

The higher speed is mainly due to the possibility of using 320 MHz wide channels in the 6 GHz band, quadrature amplitude modulation with 4,096 points (4K-QAM) and the technology Multi-Link Operation (MLO) which makes it possible to combine several frequency bands for higher total throughput .

MLO is also behind the greatly shortened response times. In the worst possible conditions, Wifi 7 is a hundred times faster than previous versions, which should lead to significant improvements in call quality during video calls – not to mention in fast online games.

Other improvements are higher reliability and significantly better utilization of the theoretical capacity in networks, including the possibility of using the parts of a channel that are not knocked out by strong interference, instead of having to choose a completely different channel.
