Although it is not the most energy-efficient of all household appliances, a tumble dryer is still very useful. Especially for those who do not live large, in the winter or on days when the laundry outside does not dry properly. But sometimes you take the laundry out of the dryer and it still feels damp. How is this possible and can it be prevented?
As mentioned, the dryer is not the most energy-efficient device, but it is practical for when it is not possible to dry laundry outside. It is an ideal device, especially for towels, bedding, underwear and socks. But now it can happen that you take the laundry out of the machine and it still feels clammy. This can have several causes.
Causes of damp laundry from the dryer
A dryer works with sensors. The sensors sense when the laundry is dry enough according to the program you have set. If there is too much (or too little) laundry in the drum, the sensors cannot properly detect whether everything has dried properly. Different materials can also lead to damp, clammy laundry. For example, if you put socks and underpants in the machine together with towels, there is a good chance that the towels will not dry properly. In terms of material, these are heavier than the other laundry, so the appliance will keep to the drying time of the lightest material. Result: clammy towels.
Keep the filters clean
In addition to the different types of laundry that affect the drying time, the condition of the appliance is also important. Because the machine does not dry properly with full filters. Not cleaning the filters properly not only prevents the laundry from drying properly, it can also cause a fire. The tumble dryer is the appliance that causes the most house fires in the home.
How can you prevent damp laundry?
So keep the device clean. Remove the dust from the filters after each drying cycle. And, with regular use, clean the filter at the bottom of the device at least once a week (or 2 weeks). If necessary, put it in your agenda. Sort laundry by laundry. Place the bedding in the dryer so that it does not get crumpled. If necessary, use dryer balls, which ensure that the laundry creases less. And to make the laundry dry even faster, there is another simple trick: use a dry towel or tea towel. As a result, the laundry dries even faster.
