People should put aside plans such as planting out the potatoes or peppers they bought at the store, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority believes.
– It can be accompanied by plant diseases and pests which we do not want to spread. If the product is imported, there will also be a risk of establishing plant diseases and pests that we do not have in this country before, says Brita Toppe, senior advisor in the section plants and inputs in the Norwegian Food Safety Authority to nations.
Although purchased food potatoes can be planted in the ground, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority warns against this. They can cause great damage to Norwegian fields.
– It doesn’t take more than you wearing the same shoes in the kitchen garden and on a trip near a potato field to spread pests, Toppe tells the newspaper.
She says it is not enough to wash the vegetables, because the infection can be inside them or inside the seed.
