Second-hand clothing, crockery, electrical goods and much more: Anyone who enters the second-hand shop “Monis Fundgrube” in the Zellerau can expect a large assortment of goods. Now there are also works of art by the late artist couple Marga and Hermann Heinickel from Estenfeld. Their range of artistic abilities was wide-ranging: “They started with photography, then sculpture and painting were added, and finally they concentrated on glass art,” says Ralf Juchim, who heads Monis Treasure Trove together with his wife Monika Juchim. There the works of art are exhibited for sale.
The Heinickel couple were known for their art and their voluntary commitment. Some of her works can be found in churches in Estenfeld, Neustadt an der Aisch and Waldberg in the Rhön. Others are in museums in Würzburg, Öhringen and Immenhausen. Hermann Heinickel founded the association “Die Kunstfreunde” in Estenfeld, where he was an honorary board member for 40 years. Among other things, for this commitment, the Bavarian State Government awarded him the “Badge of Honor for Women and Men working in voluntary Service” in 2002. The main post campaign “Godchild” was also supported by the artist couple with income from sales of glass stars.
Over 100,000 photographs in the Heinickels’ estate
Three years after the death of his wife, Hermann Heinickel also passed away in November 2019 at the age of 83. The search for the rightful inheritance began. “It was an eternal back and forth,” says Monika Juchim, the niece of Hermann Heinickel. Today, despite the associated costs and efforts, she is glad that she has inherited the house and its contents.
“It is important to us that the names of Hermann and Marga are held in honor,” says the Estenfelder. For this, she and her husband move into the house of the Heinickels and clean it up, because a lot has accumulated there. “Every drawer we open contains even more works, ” says Ralf Juchim, while he shows photos of the house on his mobile phone, “the two have lived for art”. He estimates the photographs alone to be over 100,000 pieces. Many of them were donated to the municipality of Estenfeld, for the historical reappraisal of the city’s history.
House of the artist couple Heinickel is to be renovated
In August 2021, Ralf and Monika Juchim fulfilled their wish for independence and opened the second-hand shop “Monis Fundgrube” in the Würzburg Zellerau. “As a part-time job, I regularly carry out apartment demolitions,” says Ralf Juchim. For this, he drives to the objects that are to be cleared out, looks at them and, in addition to a transfer fee, has to pay a disposal fee. “What is left after that, after careful cleaning and checking for functionality, ends up here in the store,” says the Estenfelder. From Cola glasses to flat screens to doll trolleys from the 60s, everything can be found.
With the money generated, the Juchims want to renovate the former property of the artist couple Heinickel, which was not only a home, but also a workshop at the same time. “After all the cleaning up, I have the feeling that I know Heinickels inside and out,” says Ralf Juchim. “Monis treasure trove” is to be further expanded in the future to accommodate even more works of art.
“Monis Fundgrube” in Daimlerstraße 8 is open from Monday to Friday from 10 to 18 o’clock and on Saturdays from 10 to 14 o’clock, as well as by individual appointment on tel.: (0179) 4419888.
