Why will Enedis employees go on strike in Montluçon (Allier) on Tuesday 3 November?

Five CGT federations (energy, transport, construction, metallurgy, public services) have called a strike for Tuesday, November 3.

The Enedis site on rue Marcel-Paul in Montluçon will be affected. Due to the health crisis, employees are called to strike from 8 am to 10 am without a rally in front of the premises.

Against openness to private shareholders

Trade unionists want to defend public services against the possible entry of private shareholders into the capital of EDF and its subsidiaries.

We denounce the attitude of the government, which is working on the dismantling of Engie and EDF with the sale of 29.9% of Engie as part of the takeover of Suez for the Véolia group. The plan of Jean-Pierre Clamadieu (the president of Engie, editor’s note) is to go from 189,000 agents to 32,000 by selling the subsidiaries. We also know that the European Commission has made its aid to France for the EDF bailout conditional on opening up capital to private shareholders.

The CGT opposed to the Hercules plan

The CGT fears a resumption of the Hercules plan which provides for a split of EDF into three groups. EDF bleu would take care of the energy production and will be 100% owned by the State. EDF vert, to which Enedis would be a part, will take care of distribution. Its capital will be open to private shareholders up to 35%. EDF azur would manage hydropower production. The CGT does not yet have information on the distribution of its capital.

Why are the employees of Enedis on strike this Thursday in Montluçon?

“What is worrying is that the State and decision-makers never speak of public service, customer service and tariff equalization. We do not want the energy sector to be weakened by dismantling as the health sector has been. Today in this period of health crisis we can see the problems that this poses. With climate change, many challenges will arise in the energy sector and we must be able to respond to them under the best conditions, ”emphasizes Emmanuel Serret.
