Why was there a large cluster of lightning bolts? Expert meteorologist explains.

Why was there such a large cluster of lightning bolts? “That can only be guessed at,” says qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung. “The storm came from the south-west, initially there was a lot of lightning in different places. In the Taunus, the storm front then narrowed. So there was a random bundling.” However, Jung cannot identify a trend towards more flashes. “Last year it was even less than in previous years.” By the way: according to Jung, it actually applies rule of thumb: If there are three seconds between lightning and thunder, the storm is around 1000 meters away. “This is due to the speed of sound,” explains Jung.
