Chelsea have had an auspicious start to the season, being just three points behind leaders Manchester City with five Premier League games played. The Blues have improved under Enzo Maresca as coach, who has managed to form an important backbone, including Moisés Caicedo.
For Maresca, the Ecuadorian midfielder has become a key piece, as Moi is the player in charge of recovering balls and giving the team a clean outlet from the back. Caicedo’s vision of the game has led him to add a lot of minutes at the start of this season, including the 180 minutes he played with the Ecuadorian national team against Brazil and Peru in the qualifiers.
This start of the season in Europe has a tight schedule due to local leagues, international cups and national cups, so coaches must ration their players’ strength.With this in mind, Maresca gave Niño Moi a rest in Tuesday’s League Cup third round match against Barrow, which ended 5-0 in favour of the Blues.
In the preview of the match, Maresca spoke of the possibility that several players who have not had a leading role in this start could be starters, although he did not give any clues as to who could be taken out of the 11: “We have a training session this afternoon and I also like to tell the players before anyone else.“.

Caicedo is the Chelsea player who has played the most minutes at the start of the season with 547 minutes. This led to Maresca not calling him up for Tuesday’s match, in which they had no problems in taking the victory. A hat-trick from Christopher Nkunku and goals from Paul Farman and Pedro Neto gave Chelsea a 5-0 victory.
Barrow are a team in the Fourth Division of English football, so Maresca was able to field a mixed or substitute team to give the first-teamers a rest. This is a normal occurrence for Premier League clubs in the early rounds of the League Cup as it is a lower level of competition. Chelsea will find out their fourth-round opponents on Wednesday, when the draw is made to determine the pairings.

Moisés Caicedo highlighted: English football legend put him in his ideal Premier League XI
Week after week he performs in midfield and sets records thanks to his statistics. This weekend he gave a great assist in the 3-0 victory over West Ham, proving that he is fundamental to the good offensive and defensive performance of his team.
That’s why this week an English football legend chose him as one of his players in the Premier League team of the week: Alan Shearer, the former Newcastle striker who is now a commentator.

Shearer is a self-confessed Niño Moi fan and chose him in a line-up packed with English Premier League stars. As well as Caicedo, the former striker also chose Nicola Jackson, the Ecuadorian’s teammate.
Alongside Moisés, he put Gravenberch from Liverpool, Maddison from Tottanham and Rogers from Aston Villa to complete the midfield. While Dibling and Luis Díaz complete the attacking trident of this eleven.
