In December, Cynthia de la Vega boasted on social media about her recent appointment as national director of Miss Universe Mexico; she even seemed surprised because she did not have that possibility in mind. That announcement was made after the departure of Lupita Jones, a model who became an icon of the pageant after more than three decades at the helm. But unlike Jones, the road was very short for De la Vega and a few hours ago they announced her dismissal.
What happened at Miss Universe Mexico?
After the appointment, Cynthia spoke in several interviews about her interest in stopping focusing all activities on a single person, as was the case with Lupita Jones at the helm, and assured that she brought fresh ideas to improve the work of the organization, whose achievements had been the crowns of Ximena Navarrete in 2010 and Andrea Meza in 2021.
But Miss Universe Mexico surprised a few hours ago with a statement that cuts off the plans: “It has been determined that a change is necessary in the National Directorate of Mexico to continue advancing the mission and vision of the organization in the country.” The decision, they say in the document, is the responsibility of Osmel Souza, who in his position as president advisor carried out an “exhaustive evaluation” of the “high standards, procedures and protocols.”
What did Cynthia de la Vega say after her dismissal as director of Miss Universe Mexico?
The former beauty queen published her own statement through social networks and, contrary to what was stated in the statement signed by Osmel Souza, she indicated that it was she who decided to leave the position vacant: “This decision has been made after a process of deep personal and family reflection. I have always believed that family and values are the fundamental pillars of a full and satisfying life.”
He added that the determination responds to “various changes that have arisen within the organization with respect to what was initially proposed to me and that conflicts with my personal principles and values.”
De la Vega clarified that since May 2 she was released from the functions that were her responsibility, and she thanked the participants and followers of the contest for their enthusiasm and trust.
Who will be the new director of Miss Universe Mexico?
In the Miss Universe Mexico statement, the organization also announced the arrival of Martha Cristiana Merino to take over as national director and Cynthia Velarde, as CEO.
Martha Cristiana is a model and actress originally from Puebla. She rose to fame in the 90s for her participation in several pageants inside and outside the country, she was top three in Miss International in 1987 and later dedicated herself to television. She is mainly remembered for her role as Berenice Sandoval in the soap opera When you are mine, on TV Azteca.
The official presentation was a video that shows the different magazine covers that the 53-year-old model has starred in throughout her career: “Happy to have the national director, Martha Cristiana, and the CEO, Cinthia Velarde, on the team.” .
In addition to being the new CEO of the organization, Cinthia Velarde has the same position at BCIRE, a talent representation company that has Banda MS, Belinda, Ana Barbara, and Elefante in its client portfolio.
