As for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, there are reports of a difficult battle for the Russian army and the turmoil of the Russian people.
However, a leading US expert on Russia has denied such speculation and published an analysis stating that “Putin shows no sign of stopping his military actions to put Ukraine into Russia’s sphere of influence.” Russia’s desire to dominate Ukraine is historically so ingrained that Putin’s downfall in pursuit of that goal is inconceivable, he said.
The analysis was published by Eugene Rumer, senior fellow and director of Russian and Eurasian studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a leading research institution in Washington, USA. His views were published on December 9 in the Foundation’s document entitled “Putin’s Long War”.
From 2010 to 2014, Lumar was an officer of the Obama administration’s National Intelligence Council Russia. Specializing in Russian internal affairs and diplomacy, he also worked at the National Defense University, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and the Rand Institute, and wrote many books. In particular, he is known as one of the top authorities in the United States on Putin’s research.
Putin continues military action despite a tough fight
In his article, “Putin’s Long War,” Lumar wrote that recently in the United States and parts of Europe, “Putin’s regime is about to collapse” and “President Putin will soon be forced to enter into negotiations for the ceasefire with Ukraine due to forces close to him.” He stressed the observation that Such remarks stem from the retreat of Russian forces and the spread of casualties in the fighting on Ukrainian territory.
