Why Updating an Existing Font with a New Version Can Cause Confusion and Break Websites

Updating an existing font with a new version, especially with all the wishes MS had, is a very bad plan. Suppose they adjust the internal dimensions so that letters and words take up a little more space, or fall over two lines at once.

Then all of a sudden you get people who:

– documents suddenly become completely confused, because all carefully broken pages suddenly have an extra white page. Or that one line of your list now falls on the next page.

– internal applications or sites for which that font has been specially chosen, break. For example, a piece of text falls off the screen, or a button becomes too large, or whatever.
