Transavia had to cancel dozens of flights in recent weeks and travelers are still in uncertainty in the coming period. The airline has grounded many aircraft, which has affected many thousands of holidaymakers. What’s going wrong?
Spring is normally a good time for aviation. People book a flight en masse and want to go out especially during the May holidays. But those who fly with Transavia can come home from a rude awakening. For various reasons, about one in six aircraft is grounded. The airline has a total of 45.
There are several reasons for this. First of all, there are some aircraft that Transavia has taken over from a bankrupt Romanian airline. But the paperwork is not in order yet. The boxes are therefore not allowed to go into the air. There are also a handful of aircraft that have sustained damage from lightning or being hit by a ground vehicle.

Bird flies in engine
As a result, the airline has too few aircraft and has therefore had to cancel dozens of flights in recent weeks. About fifteen thousand travelers have now been duped because they could not go on holiday or were delayed on their return journey.
There was another small problem on Thursday. A bird ended up in the engine of a Transavia plane. As a result, the aircraft had to be examined, so that it could not fly for a day.
It is not known how long the lack of aircraft will last. But Transavia has already announced that it will also have to cancel many flights this month. The problems are not expected to be over in June, July and August either.
Travelers will be rebooked or refunded
Transavia tries to rebook as many affected travelers as possible to another flight, but that does not work in all cases. Travelers can then book a new flight with Transavia themselves.
If there is no space there, travelers may book a flight with another airline. Transavia say reimburse those costs, provided they are reasonable. You can also get your money back.
Anyone who is already on holiday, but has to stay longer at the destination due to the cancellation of a flight, will be reimbursed for any extra overnight stays under certain conditions by Transavia. You may also get money back for extra expenses on food and drinks.
Claims foundations say they have recently received claims from several thousand travelers who were faced with a canceled flight.
