Sales of the Toyota C-HR Hybrid are not as good as the Corolla Cross Hybrid. Now Toyota will determine the fate of the C-HR hybrid from market demand.
Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) continues to add hybrid product lines. But in the C segment, there are two of the same models, namely the C-HR and Corolla Cross.
“(Yaris Cross) will not replace anything. Because C-HR is C segment. We are still running the C segment. Now we have two, whether we will be both, or one depending on market demand,” said PT Marketing Director Toyota Astra Motor, Anton Jimmi Suwandy, recently.
“We haven’t decided anything yet. But we will see what efficiency and community needs are suitable.” he said.
Anton explained that the Corolla Cross Hybrid had more sales than the C-HR Hybrid. It is known that the two cars have not been assembled locally, alias they are still imported intact from Thailand. Locally assembled Toyota brand hybrid cars are the Innova Zenix Hybrid and Yaris Cross Hybrid.
“Corolla Cross more volume-his. Nothing has been decided yet (about the C-HR Hybrid). We will study,” he said.
Quoted from Gaikindo wholesales data, the C-HR has found it very difficult to break above 500 units since its introduction in 2019. For example, in its inaugural year, the C-HR Hybrid could only penetrate 320 units.
In 2020, sales fell to only 126 units. Compare that with the Corolla Cross Hybrid which can touch 652 units. Even the Corolla Cross Hybrid reached thousands of units over the next two years.
The positive trend of the Corolla Cross Hybrid has also been achieved better than the C-HR Hybrid in the first four months of 2023. The new C-HR Hybrid packs 29 units, while the Corolla Cross Hybrus has reached 470 units.
Regarding the price, the C-HR Hybrid is sold more expensive than the Corolla Cross Hybrid, now it sells for Rp. 601 million – Rp. 602.5 million. Meanwhile, the Corolla Cross Hybrid costs IDR 540.9 million to IDR 602.1 million.
