Why the Vitis has to close in Schlieren

Tom Huber

The largest racket sports facility in Switzerland, the Vitis in Schlieren, is on the verge of collapse. Expanding cities and rising land prices are crowding out many indoor tennis courts. There is hardly any replacement.

The imposing complex from 1978 has 28 seats and has 130,000 visitors per year. Tens of thousands of competitive and amateur athletes have found their passion and joy in sport here. The Vitis in the Zurich suburb of Schlieren is widely recognized as a symbol of mass sport.
