“White cat, black cat, it matters if it catches mice.” This quote attributed to the “great helmsman” Mao Zedong describes how Americans are thinking about voting for their helmsman in the presidential election next Tuesday.
According to the Greek American David Paleologos one of America’s most authoritative pollsters, whose credibility was cemented when in 2016 he against all odds predicted Donald Trump‘s victory over Hillary Clintonthe “one million answer” lies in the question of whether Americans will ultimately choose the unlikeable but effective Trump over the likable but ineffective Kamala Harris. That is, a cat for mice, or a cat for petting.
The national poll for the USA
As David Paleologos characteristically argues speaking to “BIMA”, “The 2024 US presidential election will be determined by how many people will vote against former President Donald Trump even though they recognize that their lives were better when he was president.”
The national poll also notes, telling us that 56% of likely voters dislike him personally, although 50% approve of his performance while president. Harris Kamala, on the other hand, is disliked by 49%, and approval for her job as vice president is just 44%.” Simply put, “people dislike Trump more than Kamala, but think he did better as president than Harris did as vice president.”
“The US is on the wrong track”
Another element that gives Trump a better prognosis is a poll finding that shows “61% of likely voters believe the country is on the wrong track.” It is telling that “the economy and illegal immigration are the top polling issues that voters believe are worse today than they were four years ago. And with two wars raging, Trump is careful to remind voters that there have been no major military conflicts or wars during his presidency. Furthermore, in the same poll Harris is only one percentage point ahead in the popular vote, 50% to Trump’s 49%!”
Women vs. Trump
The latter is a surprising finding. But there is an explanation. The difference, as he says, is made by …women. And specifically, “to women who find Trump obnoxious (62% unfavorable), unruly, and the man responsible for overturning Roe v Wade, which caused a major explosion of abortion rights across the country.”
What will the voters answer?
“You’re voting for Harris even though wars are raging, illegal immigration is out of control, and continuing with Harris might mean paying higher prices every day? Or are you voting for Trump because your life was better when he was President even though you dislike him and worry about his unpredictable behavior both domestically and internationally”?
The 7 critical states
“These elections will determine the outcome in seven states. Arizona, Nevada, South Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. And it is these last three (the blue wall) that we need to watch closely, as they are within the margin of statistical error with Trump maintaining a slight lead,” notes Mr. Paleologos and concludes:
“Harris needs to win all three to be absolutely guaranteed victory, although there are other ways to win the electoral college even if she loses one of them.
Trump, on the other hand, needs to win at least one. If he wins two of them, he will win the election.”
