If the Togliatti brought the prototype to mind, then foreign cars would not be needed.
LADA Vesta, which appeared back in 2015, quickly conquered the Russian market, thanks to its appearance, spacious interior and new units. It was assumed that AvtoVAZ will be able to reach high sales due to the release of a new Russian sedan, but it soon turned out that it was not such a Vesta that was beautiful and motorists began to look for an alternative solution.
But earlier Togliatti developers worked on one prototype that would overshadow LADA Vesta in every way. Such a concept is considered LADA Siluet or VAZ-2116, work on which began in the spring of 2004, when the first drafts of an upcoming novelty appeared on the pages of authoritative publications.
Later the first prototype of the Siluet was presented, and in 2005 AvtoVAZ built the first LADA-S series, and although they turned out to be raw and incomplete, which caused them to crash during the first crash tests, it was a real breakthrough on that time.
In 2006, the second VAZ-2116 series, developed jointly with Magna International, was shown at the Moscow Motor Show. The new version of the car was famous for its unusual design and perfect safety – during tests the car showed 14 points out of 16 possible.
Already in 2007, they showed an updated prototype LADA Siluet, which received a well-developed appearance and an original interior – such a car can be safely attributed to the premium segment, and in addition, the car received technological equipment, which was not available at that time in any “VAZ” car .
Under the hood of Siluet, it was planned to install 1.6- and 1.8-liter engines for 102 and 128 horsepower, as well as Togliatti took care to create a 2.3-liter engine, but it didn’t come to him. Thus, back in 2007, the Volga Automobile Plant could produce a respectable car, before which even Vesta fades. LADA Siluet is currently the forgotten flagship of AvtoVAZ, which today could be the head start for any luxury foreign car.
Consequently, the release of a new car would bring AvtoVAZ to market leaders, but as always, Togliatti went the wrong way. Therefore, you have to be content with LADA Siluet only in the pictures.
