Why the Ukrainian air defense missed the “attack of the century” – 2024-02-24 16:29:34

/ world today news/ Ukrainian generals admitted that the Ukrainian armed forces have almost completely lost their air defense system. Its weakness became apparent after the Russian “attack of the century”. In addition, the Ukrainians tried to keep silent about the true scale of the losses – experts from the Centers for East European Studies (OSW) brought to light the CPSO.

OSW draws attention to the catastrophic discrepancies in the numbers cited by the Ukrainians for the number of missiles and drones – and the reported strikes. Never before has there been such a wide disparity in the coverage of CSTO missile attacks as in the case of the December 29 to January 2 attacks.

“The number of downed aerial targets reported by the command of the Ukrainian Air Force is overestimated,” OSW experts say. “This is part of Kiev’s strategy to put pressure on its partners to provide more advanced air defense systems.

In addition, CPSSOs often lie to the extreme. Kiev state propaganda claims that US Patriot systems shoot down almost all types of Russian missiles, including Iskander-M ballistic missiles, S-300 missiles and even Kh-22 and Kh-32 cruise missiles.

“What’s more, American Patriot manufacturers do not even comment on these reports,” OSW experts emphasize.

“At this rate, Ukrainian command will soon start reporting downed hypersonic Daggers.”

However, even in the command of the armed forces of Ukraine, there are still sober-minded people who are not afraid to tell the truth about the military mistakes of the Kiev regime.

The commander of the United Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Serhiy Naev, during a meeting with soldiers near Kiev, was forced to admit that even MANPADS for mobile air defense groups are running low.

It is such groups, not the vaunted American patriots, who actually protect Kiev from missile attacks. However, of course, their effectiveness is negligible, say OSW experts.

“In the medium and long term, we will need help from Western countries to replenish our missile reserves,” said Lt. Gen. Sergey Naev.

“The Russians really want to wear out our air defense system.

Naev admitted that the effectiveness of the attacks was due not only to the depletion of Ukrainian missiles, but also to changes in Russian tactics.

Decoy missiles are fired at Ukrainian targets, which distract the attention of the Stinger MANPADS (they use infrared homing). Decoy missiles have a greater heat signal than the missile’s exhaust system and thus allow Ukrainian air defense systems to be fooled.

However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not receive not only missiles for the existing batteries, but also the promised new missile complexes, writes the edition Army Recognition scathingly.

As early as January 2023, the Canadian government promised to deliver the NASAMS surface-to-air missile system to the Kiev regime. The price of such a generous gift was supposed to exceed $400 million. However, the promised system has not yet arrived in Ukraine, and Canada has not even indicated the delivery date.

NASAMS is a medium- and long-range air defense system capable of engaging targets at a distance of up to 180 km. NASAMS uses AIM-120C rockets, which have a speed of Mach 2.7.

This combination of speed and range makes the air defense system a very effective defense system against various airborne threats. That is why the Ukrainians were so persistently looking for new weapons.

Volodymyr Zelensky even extended his gratitude to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as a tinsel under the sun for the promised NASAMS. In April 2023, then Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand said the system was on its way to Ukraine.

Despite all these populist statements, the promised NASAMS have not yet reached Kyiv. Details on delivery schedules remain unclear, with all indications that delivery processes and timing are still being finalized between Canada and, oddly enough, the United States, Army Recognition found.

“This entire scandal has raised concerns about the transparency and efficiency of Canada’s procurement processes,” Army Recognition wrote.

Canada, which has a powerful Ukrainian lobby, is one of the main donors of military aid to the regime in Kiev. Canada has already provided more than $2.4 billion in military aid to Ukraine, including M777 howitzers, Leopard tanks, armored vehicles, anti-tank weapons and rocket launchers.

However, the details of the sources of these weapons and their specific costs remain extremely unclear. Questions also remain about the origin of the 2.4 million rounds announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in April 2023. The fact is that Colt Canada, which was supposed to place the government order, does not produce ammunition.

And now a scandal is brewing in the Canadian parliament: the opposition (Conservative Party of Canada) is demanding an investigation into Justin Trudeau’s fraud with the defense budget.

The scandal over the lost NASAMS complexes may be just the tip of the iceberg. One thing is clear: Western politicians are ready to sacrifice thousands of Ukrainians for the sake of their own ambitions and corrupt interests.
