Additionally, according to information provided to money.pl by the spokesman of the State Fire Service in Opole, Junior Brigadier Tomasz Pierzchała, the explosion occurred during the servicing of a heat pump.
In turn, as the spokesman for the Provincial Police Commander in Opole told PAP, initial findings indicate that the explosion “may be related to the heat pump that was in this house.”
– It is difficult to comment on the situation when we do not know all the circumstances of the event, but it is certain that heat pumps do not pose any threat to their users – Paweł Lachman, president of the Polish Organization for the Development of Heat Pump Technology (PORT PC), comments for money.pl.
– However, it is worth remembering that there is a certain group of devices – monoblock heat pumps with flammable refrigerants (from group A3), installed outside the building – which require service technicians to be particularly careful and follow special procedures during technical inspections and use specialist tools – he points out.
– A few years ago, PORT PC issued detailed industry guidelines in this area. Perhaps the incident we are talking about is the result of unprofessional service of this pump, lack of appropriate skills of the service technician or tools. It is certain that this this could not happen if the mentioned standards were applied – adds Paweł Lachman.
Subsidies for pumps only with a certificate
Let us remind you that since June 13, subsidies for heat pumps from the “Clean Air” program are granted only for the purchase of devices from the ZUM list (green devices and materials kept by the Institute of Environmental Protection). Only certified products are listed there, and by the end of the year, heat pumps with the quality mark must also be included there.
– IOŚ will verify which products will be on this list. These are pumps that will undergo tests and receive certificates in an accredited laboratory. There are 22 such units in Europe – Krzysztof Bolesta, Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, argued a few months ago.
Heat pump sales have fallen
The Zero Carbon Analytics report shows that Poland was a leader in the development of the heat pump market in the European Union. In 2022, our country recorded the largest increase in sales of these devices compared to other European countries. Every third heating device installed in Poland at that time was a heat pump.
This represented an increase of just over 100% compared to 2021. However, a significant decline was already recorded in the first half of 2023. Compared to the same period in 2022. heat pump sales dropped by 40 percent. In the second quarter of 2023, it was much worse. Sales of these devices fell by over 55 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
