Prior to the Mexican Grand Prix, there was much talk about a hypothetical event. What if Sergio Perez drove for Max Verstappen in his home race? Would the Mexican then have to make way for the Dutch?
“Yes, but of course. I also got so tired of that whole discussion and I don’t understand at all where it came from. Just look at the races, we’ve had 18 now. How many times has Perez driven for Max Verstappen in the first place?” wonders F1 expert Ruud Dimmers in the RacingNews365-Podcast.

Priority is with Verstappen
Dimmers finds it useless to think about such a situation in advance, especially because the results of the Mexican driver are not yet there. “All weekend it was about whether Perez should win the race. Stop it. Let Perez first get into a situation where he drives for Max, instead of all speculating. It happened every day about,” says Dimmers.
“If he had somehow driven for it, he would of course have had to step aside. That’s nothing worthy of a discussion.” Dimmers is assisted by Tom Coronel. “The priority is with Max,” said the WTCR driver.
Coronel is moderately satisfied with Perez. He does expect that the Mexican can ensure that Red Bull can win the championship with the constructors. “Especially now. Perez has got the swing, so I’m confident it should work. He’s growing and becoming one with the team. Once you score well, you get that confidence too. “
In Mexico, however, there could have been more for Checo, Coronel judges: “It is great for him that he came third, but again he did not show why he is at Red Bull and that is helping Max. The car was good enough to be second, then you also have to take points from Lewis.”
