We hadn’t known that for a century, and we would have been fine. Lyon (Rhône) had not experienced such a rainy month of July for a century, 1921, date of the first weather report.
And it’s not over ! The weekend promises to be still gloomy, with a deterioration expected on Saturday. We will have to wait until next week to review August weather, according to Romain Weber of Lyon weather.

The fault is bad luck
The meteorologist comes back for us on this rainy episode, and puts forward a beginning of explanation for the less frustrating:
« It’s bad luck to blame. We are almost the only ones in Europe to have known that. We had episodes of cold drops during the month of July, when many other European countries were very hot ”.
However, “we cannot say that there is no global warming,” he recalls. Feelings have taken the place of facts in people’s minds.
“Contrary to what one might think, we are not far from seasonal norms. We had a hot June, a slightly lower July, but we’re not that far away. In terms of temperature, we are far from a rotten summer “affirms Romain Weber,” It makes a lot more sense than a summer at 38 degrees ! »
Before recalling: “The last six summers have been hot, dry, scorching. We got used to it, but it’s not normal. Before 2000, a summer like this year was a hot summer. “
And to give another example: “After the war, we sometimes had summers at 40 degrees, but it was a day that followed one another with episodes of coolness, not like our scorching summers”.
The myth of August 15
And for those who are afraid of seeing their summer definitively buried from August 15, as some think that it is on this date that the weather changes, do not panic: it is an urban legend:
« It’s a myth. It’s more that the days get shorter, so it is more complicated to have a strong heatwave, the evenings are cooler, it’s a small step towards autumn, that’s all ”laughs the meteorologist.
Moreover, it is in these dates that we should find sun and heat, according to the first estimates. Patience…
