Most of the ski lifts have been off for weeks, but some have reopened. In times of restrictions, on what criteria have they obtained an exemption? We explain to you.

All closed, the ski lifts? Not so sure … Last Monday, the Eau d’Olle was inaugurated. Located in Isère, this new gondola can now connect Allemond to Oz-en-Oisans in just 8 minutes. “We have less stress on the road. Even if it has snowed and the roads are not very good, there is no question and we know that everyone is safe.é “a user rejoices.
If the Eau d’Olle was able to open for pedestrians, it is because it is considered as an urban transport. This is also the case with the Bétex gondola in Saint-Gervais in Haute-Savoie. The tipper here acts as a mountain bus or tram. The prefecture has therefore granted an exemption for this installation, which transports 300 people every day.
“There are fewer people in our cable cars than in the metro or in public transport in Lyon or Grenoble, justifies Jean-Marc Peillex, mayor of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains. So we are really in something which is useful and which is not more risky than the concentration of another means of transport on wheels“.

Same argument in Venosc, where a cable car has been making the shuttle with the 2 Alpes for ten years. It allows users to save 35 to 40 minutes on road transport. Among them, many college students take the cable car to get to Bourg d’Oisans college.
Two weights, two measures ?
Today closed for works, the bubbles of Grenoble have also obtained an exemption during the Christmas holidays, because the departure is in town.
But the excuse of urbanity does not explain everything: far from the big cities, the Touvet funicular, popular with tourists, has reopened. While the Aiguille du Midi, just as touristy and open all year round, is condemned to remain closed despite major health investments.
Even a letter to Jean Castex changed nothing. As often, the rule therefore suffers from many exceptions …
