The James Webb telescope, one of the most advanced projects since the moonwalks, is said to be able to allow us to see the “big bang” at a cost of SEK 100 billion. But why? Why should we know about it? For such sums? 100 billion. And how many billions does everything else we do in space cost?
Why should we explore space when we are ruining our planet in search of everyone who wants to be the richest when they die? In some parts of the world, you can’t even drink clean water. Other parts spew pollution and dump waste everywhere. People live with ostrich syndrome, where we put our heads in the sand and don’t see things.
Forests die, fish disappear from the seas. There will be more floods, more forest fires and hurricanes destroying entire cities. It sounds like a doomsday prophecy, but that’s what we live in, without worrying as we spend hundreds of billions on things we could really do without. For that money, we could do things that lead to a healthier earth.
