Nicolas Maduro announced this Monday the Christmas coming early in Venezuela for the next one October 1st. This was confirmed during a presentation on the official channel Globo Visión, where he argued that It is a “tribute to the combative people”“It’s September and it already smells like Christmas. In gratitude to you, I am going to declare Christmas on October 1st; Christmas has arrived with peace, happiness and security,” the Venezuelan president said.
Far from being an unprecedented event, it is a determination he has made since he became president in 2013. ,He repeated the same thing in 2020when he imposed Christmas on October 15, with the aim of public attention no longer being focused on the problems that the coronavirus pandemic caused in that country. He repeated the same strategy in 2021 and now in 2024, just over a month after the controversial presidential elections which sparked allegations of fraud, protests and police repression across the country.
Amid protests over the power outages and in front of a group of Venezuelans who were in the audience, Maduro announced on television that he had made the decision to bring forward Christmas. “September is coming and I said: ‘September and it already smells like Christmas’. And that’s why this year, in tribute to you, in gratitude to you, I am going to decree the advancement of Christmas to October 1st.For everyone, Christmas has arrived. With peace, happiness and security,” was his full message.

What seems like a crazy idea for the president of Venezuela is an annual activity which he has been doing since he became the first president of his country. The first opportunity was in 2013. At the beginning of November of that year He used the holiday to try to to raise the spirits of the population after the death of former President Hugo Chavez“We are going to bring forward Christmas so that people can enjoy this time of peace and love, and forget a little about the difficulties,” he said at the time.
The same thing was repeated during each of the following years, although not always on the same date.
