Why NATO planes start circling over Eastern Europe

NATO fighter jets and reconnaissance planes are beginning to circle around the clock over the airspace of the alliance’s member states amid fears that the war in Ukraine could leave its borders.

In a video posted on Twitter this Thursday, the military bloc said it would make every effort to protect the airspace of the Alliance countries in Eastern Europe – Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania, which are part of the Eastern flank of NATO and close to the Russian Federation.

Estonia and Latvia share a border with Russia, notes Newsweek.

Given the Russian invasion of Ukraine, NATO forces are ready to protect the allies’ airspace against any threats, the video says.
