After touring with other prospects like D’Molls, then Britney Fox and finally Eddie Money, Warrant wanted to take the opportunity to act like they were in the big leagues. But, as band members Joey Allen and Steven Sweet recall in Tom Beaujour and Richard Bienstock’s new book Nothin ‘But a Good Time, they picked the wrong time to act.
The headliners were already engaged in an attempt to clean up their own image, and Warrant’s attempts to live out their rock star dreams were unwelcome.
Guitarist Joey Allen said:
I remember one time when we ransacked our lodge in some town. The next day, we entered our lodge and there was no catering, no beer; there was nothing. Tommy Lee came to our lodge with a plate. And there was shit on it. He said, “Here, I heard you were hungry. Hold !”.
He continued :
I don’t know if they ended up picking up the tab for us or if they received any criticism for it, but it was kind of like, “Don’t do that”. It’s funny is not it ? Because it could have been, “Look, we’re taking 10 minutes away from your set” or “You don’t have any lights or sounds”.
Whatever the reason for Tommy Lee’s gesture, Steven Sweet said:
Honestly, even though they were supposed to be sober, the guys at Crue never stopped partying. I just think they stopped using heroin.
