Why modern motors overheat so easily

One of the specific features, which, together with the above reasons, may contribute to the repair of the engine from “heat stroke”. The fact is that pointer and sometimes digital devices showing the temperature of the coolant do not transmit real values, but conditionally normal readings over a wide temperature range. Obviously, this is done so as not to disturb the driver with unnecessary information. The arrow can go into the red zone when a critical overheating has occurred.

What happens when overheating?

In short – a lot of unpleasant phenomena. With “heat stroke”, scoring of cylinders can form – the reason is the small clearance of the piston-cylinder pair. Overheating selects it and the piston begins to rub along the cylinder walls. With increasing temperature, the risk of detonation is significantly increased – a dangerous phenomenon that provokes the destruction of pistons and spalling of liner linings on aluminum engines. At high temperatures, the oil cokes and degrades, begins to lose its properties, and plastic and rubber parts and joints wear out faster. It also gets to the catalyst, which passes hotter exhaust gases through itself.

How to prevent overheating?

The first and obvious recommendation is to regularly, at least once a year wash the radiators and change the “cooler” at least once every 60 thousand kilometers. Try to spend less time in traffic jams, since such operating conditions in terms of temperature conditions are the least favorable. When the congestion is over, do not rush to press the pedal to the floor – the unit cannot cool down quickly and will work in unfavorable mode for some time, and even under load.

Sometimes there are recommendations to install low-temperature thermostats, if any, as well as a digital device that displays the actual temperature of the coolant.
