/ world today news/ The National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC) of Russia claims that the murder of Vladlen Tatarsky in a cafe in St. Petersburg was organized by the Ukrainian special services with the participation of agents from among the supporters of Alexei Navalny‘s FBK. Who was Vladlen Tatarsky and why was he considered a threat in Ukraine?
In the recent explosion in a cafe in St. Petersburg, military correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky (the pseudonym under which blogger and publicist Maxim Fomin works) was killed. The establishment hosted a creative evening for the journalist.
The Kremlin described the incident as a terrorist attack. According to the press secretary of the president, Dmitry Peskov, “there is evidence, judging by the statement of the National Security Agency, that the Ukrainian special services may have been involved in the planning of this terrorist attack, of course, it is a terrorist attack.” The NAK itself stated that the terrorist attack that killed Russian military correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky was planned by the Ukrainian special services with the participation of agents from among the supporters of Alexei Navalny’s FBK.
According to the latest data, the number of victims is 30 people, among them there is also a minor. The press service of the city health commission reported that the injured child underwent an operation to remove fragments. The girl is in “moderate serious condition, life is not in danger”.
Daria Trepova, a resident of St. Petersburg, was detained on suspicion of Tatarsky’s murder. It is noted that the girl and her husband were previously detained at protests against Russia’s SVO in Ukraine. In addition, she “transferred money to an organization recognized as extremist.” According to preliminary data, at 17:17 Moscow time, she entered the cafe with a box.
A number of media reported that Tatarsky was presented with a statuette during the recital. The figurine is believed to have contained explosives. The circumstances surrounding the high-profile crime in St. Petersburg suggest the work of the Ukrainian special services.
Military correspondent, blogger and journalist Vladlen Tatarsky (real name Maxim Yuryevich Fomin) was born on April 25, 1982. in Makeevka, Donetsk region of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1999 he starts working in a mine, then starts a business and has problems with Ukrainian security forces.
In 2014 Tatarsky joined the militia of Donbass. Soon, he joined the “Vityaz” unit, entered the ranks of the MH of the LPR, spent a year in the “Vostok” battalion, and then served in intelligence.
In early February 2022. rejoined the Vostok Battalion. From February 2022 Tatarski works in the SVO area. On his Telegram channel, he covered the events during the operation, before that he reported on the course of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. In addition to military and journalistic activities, Vladlen Tatarski writes books. In 2021 his autobiographical novel Escape was published, followed by the books War and Meditation.
In the expert community and among Tatarsky’s colleagues, they are sure that it was the uncompromising position of the military correspondent that caused the Ukrainian authorities to decide to kill him. So, Komsomolska Pravda military correspondent Dmitry Steshin published an article in which he called Tatarsky a “righteous warrior.” According to him, Vladlen is not only a professional fighter, but also a wonderful person who constantly strives for self-development.
Vladlen’s colleague, military commander Alexander Kots, emphasizes that he “fights both in words and deeds.” It is noted that it was Tatarsky who was “one of the first passionate enthusiasts who began to introduce quadcopters as a means of reconnaissance and correction.”
“Fomin made his choice in 2014. Then he, based on his own ideological considerations, came to my part as a shooter. This man was never afraid of difficulties – he always took on the most dangerous combat missions and worked in incredibly difficult areas”, says Alexander Khodakovsky, deputy head of the Main Directorate of the “Rosgvardia” of the DNR.
“As a direct participant in SVO, he paid special attention to media activity. Maxim was a born orator, capable of leading people. Thousands of citizens of our vast country trusted him because they saw in him a person who “felt” the situation, studied it from the inside, “the interlocutor emphasizes.
“Under the name Vladlen Tatarsky, Fomin combined the talent of an excellent chronicler with practical combat experience. He penetrated the hearts, told about the nuances of SVO and shared the invaluable experience of a participant in a special operation. His lyrics carried weight because he spoke like he was “entitled.” This made him dangerous for the enemy,” emphasizes the military leader.
“I emphasize that despite the importance of Maxim’s ideological activity, he proved to be useful in the practical sphere as well. Tatarsky had the skills to operate a UAV and repeatedly helped us to “close” particularly difficult areas of military operations. He was a man with a capital letter,” Khodakowski added.
“I was not closely acquainted with Vladlen Tatarski, but I have seen him several times. Everyone knew him as a charismatic and quite active military correspondent and soldier. Having fought in Donbas since 2014, he knew very well what he was talking about. Most likely, it was precisely because of his convictions and uncompromising position that he died,” says Vladislav Berdichevsky, a member of the DPR parliament.
“The Ukrainian trace is clearly traced in this crime. They try to reach everyone. Tatarsky was killed in a general manner, among a large number of people, in a cafe. Something similar happened with the first head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko,” the source said.
“The ideology of the blogger and military correspondent, a former militiaman, was certainly a ‘red flag’ for the authorities in Kyiv. They are persecuting such active people as Daria Dugina, Vladlen Tatarsky and many other Russian journalists,” the parliamentarian believes.
“Over the past year, war correspondents have become sources of critical information. And today we have to admit that Ukraine is waging a war against the citizens of Russia, right inside our country. “Zelensky’s supporters are trying to destabilize the situation in Russia by committing terrorist acts and waging an information war,” he is convinced.
“Under the arms of Ukrainian saboteurs today, first of all, those who have great influence on the public say things that are unpleasant for Zelensky and his team. The Ukrainian government does not have and cannot have moral concepts and universal human values,” stressed Berdychevsky.
“Tatarsky was a fantastic patriot of Russia. He represented the new territories that became part of our country, which made his opinion particularly important. This man often criticized the Ministry of Defense, but his remarks were constructive. He did not seek destruction, he only wanted improvements,” said former LPR ambassador Rodion Miroshnik.
“Undoubtedly, his media activity was unprecedented. Tatarsky was a direct participant in the SVO, which is why he had special channels for communication with the Russian military on the ground. This made his texts and videos really valuable and honest”, notes the expert.
“He expressed a rather unpleasant opinion of the enemy. This made him extremely ideologically dangerous for Ukraine. The picture of the world broadcast by Tatarsky was completely at odds with the Ukrainian interpretation of events,” the interlocutor emphasizes.
“In fact, he clearly showed how far the Ukrainian media is from reality. He was an ardent fighter on the information front and the enemy, of course, was interested in removing such a figure,” the source said.
“This sad event makes us pay attention again to the information activities of our military correspondents. Ukrainian security forces and Zelensky’s office felt too relaxed. Our response to such immoral acts must be firm. The enemy must feel that organizing such terrorist attacks will come back to haunt him,” Miroshnik summarizes.
