Serial The crown Season 5 continues to unearth an interesting story about the British royal family. The latest episode describes how popular Princess Diana was during her lifetime with King Charles III, her mother.
Quoting from Marie-Claire, biographer of Princess Diana, aka Andrew Morton, has an important role in drafting the plot of the series that airs on Netflix. He said King Charles III was really struggling to keep up with his ex-wife’s popularity.
“She (Diana) wasn’t concerned about the personal hardships they experienced, but when in public, Diana upstaged Charles’ existence,” she said.
“He (Diana) is the star of every show, not her husband (who is a prince). And that’s something he (Charles) thinks is very hard to win,” she continued.
For information, Princess Diana’s presence in the British royal family has been very well received. Indeed, she was known as the princess of the people and was bossy when she appeared with Charles.
He also demonstrated this during the two’s tour of Australia in 1983. During that time, thousands of people greeted Charles and Princess Diana. Even so, it was clear that the gathering of local residents was just to see the princess for herself.
“The residents who gathered did not accept that Prince Charles walked too close to them on the side of the road (Princess Diana wanted),” Morton said.
“In public, Charles accepted the status quo (without making changes) with positive and open feelings. But privately, he blamed Diana,” Morton wrote in Diana: Her True Story.
Unlike Diana, King Charles saw things differently from his second wife, Camilla. In her view of her popularity, Camilla is 180 degrees different from the mother of her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
King Charles saw Camilla as a woman who provided support and was willing to be second only to himself. Charles is also said to have known Camilla for most of her life.
“He’s known Camilla most of his life,” she said.
While with King Charles, Camilla was always by his side and did not precede King Charles as the center of attention. Camilla had her own way of entertaining her husband as King Charles wanted.
“He (Camilla) has become an encouragement who stands by her (Charles) to support and entertain in the way Charles always wants in a companion, which is a figure who is also willing to be number two, after himself,” she explained still. .
