It has long been known that, in addition to Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and Jupiter also have rings made of pieces of ice and rock. Why these are so weak makes for guesswork, especially with Jupiter. Because of its size, the planet would be predestined to have similarly distinctive formations as the slightly smaller Saturn. However, as a current photo from the James Webb telescope shows, this is not the case. Jupiter’s rings can be seen, but are much fainter than the planet itself.
