If you saw the car above on the streets of Romania, you would be convinced that it is a Dacia 1300 that someone took great care of. In fact, it is the result of the fact that, for a long time, car designers took their inspiration from each other.
This is not a Dacia 1300, but it would be difficult for you to reach this conclusion without taking a close look at a number of fine details. Instead, it is a very particular Renault model. Titled Renault 12 Gordini, this French car was created specifically for sale in Italy.
Dacia 1300 or Renault 12
As you would expect, there is a very logical explanation for the similarities between this car in the pictures next to it a Dacia 1300. The two cars were identical models from a technical and visual point of view, the differences being only in details. The interesting part is that, in fact, the one above is the original and preceded the creation of the Romanians from Dacia.
The “Gordini” in the Renault 12 Gordini is a reference to racing driver Amedee Gordini, a very talented engineer and car manufacturer. Many have compared him to Caroll Shelby. The similarities with the American manufacturer also start from the fact that, among his ideas, there was the realization of significantly better versions of Renault cars.
The first was a Renault 2 Gordini from 1964. Because it was a mass success and sold 11,607 copies, others followed. The car similar to the Dacia 1300 came into the spotlight in 1970. Significantly faster and more beautiful than the old Renault 8, this model had brakes on all four discs, while the front ones were ventilable. The suspension was modified with larger and stiffer springs.
The engine had 1.6 liters in a block made entirely of aluminum and could generate no less than 125 hp. But the top speed was even more impressive, especially for that time, 185 kmph. In total, this car, very similar to a Dacia, sold 5188 units. If you are curious about the subject, the copy in the images below sells for 25,500 euros.
