Portal Bogotá consulted the public health expert and doctor in epidemiology from the Universidad de los Andes, Andrea Ramírez Varela, who reiterated the importance of being clear that the Janssen vaccine is a single dose, and only with that dose people already acquire immunity against coronavirus.

The biological Janssen is owned by the Johnson & Johnson company, which, unlike the other pharmaceutical companies, produced this vaccine for administer in a single dose, being as effective and safe as the rest of the vaccines.
Janssen was developed through the scientific method called viral vector, the same technology used to produce the AstraZeneca vaccine, that is, it uses a harmless version of a virus to train the immune system to identify and defend against it.
Why is Janssen a single dose while the rest of the vaccines require two applications?
All vaccines require going through previous studies and testing phases that guarantee their effectiveness and safety before being applied in a massive way to the population.
The pharmaceutical company Janssen tested its efficacy and safety during phases I and II of development of the biological, applying both one and two doses to a certain group of people and the results showed that, due to the technology used by this vaccine, At 29 days after the first dose, 90% of people developed antibodies, while 100% developed them at 57 days. This means that the second dose is not so necessary, since only with the first a high percentage of immunity is acquired.
The efficacy and safety of Janssen is further endorsed by the European Medicines Agency, EMA, entity that guarantees the scientific evaluation, supervision and monitoring of the safety of medicines for human use such as vaccines, and was added by the World Health Organization, WHO, to the list of effective and safe vaccines against COVID- 19.
On March 11, the EMA approved Janssen as effective and safe, after the results of the phase III test determined that the biological one has an efficacy of 66.99% at 14 days after its application and a protection of 85% against serious complications of the disease caused by COVID-19. Likewise, it demonstrated 100% efficacy in minimizing the risk of death from coronavirus.
