Football is a sport of revenge and second chances, like the one we will experience this August 6th between Spain and Brazil in the semi-finals of the women’s soccer tournament Olympic GamesOn July 31, the Spanish team won by two goals to zero Brazil in a match that will soon be forgotten. All the glory is reserved for the winner of this match. Second clash between ‘La Roja’ and ‘La Canarinha’.
Spain came into the Olympics as one of the favourites, and so far they are living up to expectations. They won all their group matches and made it to the semi-finals after a hard-fought win over Colombia, but ironically, could be left without a medal if they lose against a team they have already beaten.
Why Spain and Brazil are playing again
Although the Brazilian national team is a historic team in football and has players of the calibre of Marta, it arrived in Paris with some doubts. After beating Nigeria and losing to Japan and Spain in the group stage, it managed to advance to the quarter-finals as one of the best third-placed teams. By qualifying under this condition and not as second-placed team, Brazil was placed on the same side of the table as Spain.
In their quarter-final match, ‘La Canarinha’ pulled off a surprise by eliminating one of the favourites, France, and certified their passage to the semi-finals where Spain awaits. The match will be played in Marseille this August 6th at 9:00 PMthe moment in which the Spanish players will fight to avoid Brazilian revenge.
