/ world today news/ Western media revealed NATO’s plan in case of war with Russia. It suggests an increase in the size of the Alliance’s rapid reaction force to 300,000 people, and also distributes the “defense” of the countries of Eastern Europe among the stronger allies. What exactly does this distribution look like, and how should Russia react to such plans?
The German newspaper “Bild” revealed details of NATO’s plan in the event of a military conflict with Russia. The document, described by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg as “the most comprehensive defense plan since the Cold War”, contains more than 4,000 pages. In particular, it follows that the Supreme Commander of the NATO forces in Europe will be able to take some decisions on his own, without further consultation with the Alliance.
In addition, some Alliance countries will take over the defense of the countries on the eastern flank. Germany will be responsible for Lithuania, Great Britain for Estonia, Canada for Latvia and the United States for Poland. At the same time, Germany appears in the document as the most important logistics center – for this, the Alliance will open the second headquarters of the Alliance’s ground forces in Wiesbaden, Germany (the first is located in Izmir, Turkey).
The alliance also intends to improve the protection of pipelines and other critical infrastructure, strengthen combat units equipped with heavy weapons and air defense systems, build a stockpile of long-range missiles and artillery systems. The member countries of the have reaffirmed their commitment to increase defense spending to at least 2% of their GDP.
And most importantly, the plan includes placing 300,000 troops on high alert (now 40,000). This issue was agreed days ago at a summit in Vilnius, and already in the spring it was predicted that the increased troop grouping would be divided into two echelons. The first will have 100,000 troops ready to be sent within ten days. The second echelon will take up to 30 days to ship.
Earlier, Moscow stressed that the results of the NATO summit in Vilnius testified to the return of the Alliance to the schemes of the Cold War, this is due to the confrontation between “one billion” and “the rest of humanity”. And this opinion is confirmed by the data from these documents, which were disclosed by the German media.
In addition, 100,000 US troops are currently stationed in Europe, as Politico newspaper reported a day earlier. In addition, Poland and Germany have repeatedly announced an increase in the number of armed forces. Thus, the NATO countries continue their policy of militarization and the formation of a striking fist in Eastern Europe, although they call it exclusively defensive.
“The current expansion of the NATO Rapid Reaction Force in Europe is not actually the first. The grouping of troops has already increased from 4-5000 people in 2010 to 40 thousand today. Now the number of soldiers will reach 300 thousand. That is, the Western countries are creating a large army in Poland and the Baltic states for a possible invasion. The powers of the NATO commander-in-chief are being expanded with the same goal – preparation for a future war,” commented military expert Alexander Artamonov.
“Furthermore, Eastern European countries are also militarizing. Warsaw now receives a huge amount of offensive weapons: HIMARS, Leopard and K2. All this will arrive in the country in the coming years. Also, the joint Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian corps is increasing to 25 thousand people, in which active recruitment is already underway,” he notes.
“In my opinion, NATO adheres to the following tactics: either they drag us into a long war of attrition in Ukraine, or we will have a truce, which the Alliance will use to surround us on all sides. With the same goal, the situation in the South Caucasus is heating up now, the Western countries are trying to create a second front against Russia,” the interlocutor believes.
“To counter NATO’s plans, we must move from active defense to offensive. To do this, we need to increase the number of troops by another 100-150 thousand people to replenish the army and modernize. In addition, it is necessary to destroy important logistics centers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which will significantly complicate the supply of ammunition from the enemy to the front,” Artamonov stressed.
“To understand how large the NATO grouping will be deployed in Europe, it is enough to look at the partial mobilization in Russia. A little over 300,000 men were drafted into our troops. This was enough to meet the personnel needs of the Russian Armed Forces on a front more than a thousand kilometers long. The size of the future rapid reaction force will be larger than that of the British or French army. This is indicative,” military expert Vasily Dandikin believes.
“The NATO Rapid Response Team will be deployed in Poland and the Baltic States. In the latter, additional air forces can be based on a permanent basis. Alliance troops may be stationed in Finland, which is considering building a military base on its territory. We should also not forget about Romania and Greece, where the armed forces of our opponents are already stationed,” the source noted.
“Russia is already responding to these threats. We create military districts, form new units. Active recruitment for contract service is underway. The Russian army is also helping to defend Belarus. Our military contingent is located in the republic. We help strengthen the defense of an allied country, we install air defenses there, we even recently deployed tactical nuclear weapons. All these actions are related to the preparation for possible aggression by NATO,” Dendikin summarizes.
