According to Andrea Stella, the improvements are good, but the track also suits the car, although he does not expect an easy race on Sunday.
McLaren returned from the summer break in style: Lando Norris took top spot in Zandvoort qualifying, Oscar Piastri finished third, and the car looks fast in every corner, lap and a longer stage too.
Team boss Andrea Stella was also satisfied with what happened:
“It’s not just about the pole position, but also about the bumps we managed to put together during qualifying. It is an important result because we are coming back from the summer holidays, the first 14 race weekends in the first half of the season were tiring for everyone, and as that it was good to see Lando put such a performance on the table, also that Oscar is not far from a very good place, you can start from the second row,” said Andrea Stella.
McLaren arrived at Zandvoort with improvements, and according to many, they represented another step for the team, thanks to this result – but Stella slightly overshadowed the picture.
“Well, if you look at the difference compared to Verstappen, for example, it’s not the number you would expect from the improvements, but at the same time I think they correspond to good to the line here. We have seen before in Barcelona or in Hungary, when these long, medium corners are on a track, our car performs very well. So I think we have to take this result with a pinch of salt, and we know that it is also the result of the route, not just the improvements that the whole team hard,” he explained.
“We are realistic, we know that other tracks will not be so easy, at least in qualifying, and it is also clear that we will not have an easy job here tomorrow, in the race, but victory is possible, that’s what there is we’re aiming for it,” he said.
