Why is it called Crocodile Hole?? The origin of the name Lubang Buaya actually existed before the location became a silent witness to the G30S/PKI tragedy.

At first Lubang Buaya was a street name. The location is on Jalan Lubang Buaya, which is located in Lubang Buaya Village, Cipayung District, East Jakarta. This location holds a deep history for the Indonesian people.

Excerpted from a study entitled ‘Investigating the History of the Naming of Lubang Buaya Street and its Relation to the G30S Event’ written by Aqiilah Afiifadiyah Rahman and Jumardi and published in the journal Local History & Heritage, the history of the crocodile hole originally came from the name of a street as well as a village in Cipayung District, East Jakarta.

It is known that this Crocodile Hole area used to have a river filled with crocodiles. In addition to crocodiles that can be seen with the eye, there are crocodiles that are magical or white crocodile stealth. But the crocodiles’ obstacles can be overcome by a cleric named Prince Syarif (Datok Flood). Since then, the area has been named Lubang Buaya.

Then, the residents of the Lubang Buaya area called Prince Syarif as Datok Flood. This is because they believe that he has abilities that others do not have.
